Balls of fire?

American born Australia(i like  to emphasise that 🙂 ) is through to the LA Finals on Saturday with a win over Argentine Leonard Mayer.  7-5, 7-6(3) was the final scoreline.  However, the atp website suggests it was a scrappy performance on his half and he will need to pick up his game for the final on Sunday versing either Sam Querrey or Tommy Haas.  The 22 year old fired 10 aces and dropped six points on his first serve.  If you had never even heard of him, don’t worry me either!  It was the left handers first ever match in the tour level and is ranked at 205 but next week can be ranked much higher if he wins!

“I was just trying to get through my first round qualifying match,” Ball said of his goals at the beginning of the LA Tennis Open.  “It’s definitely been a surprise but something I’ve worked for. The conditions have suited my game with the court taking some kick and spin, and I’ve been able to play aggressively and get into the net. Doing it here in front of my family makes it that much sweeter.”
